What is HydroCore™ technology?
HydroCore™ is Aprilaire's next-generation bypass humidifier technology. It features a recirculation valve that recycles water across the media panel, maximizing saturation while reducing wastewater by 55%. The one-piece HydroCore™ water panel cartridge snaps in and out for tool-free maintenance. It's the evolution of the trusted 600 Series.
How does the 620 compare to the 600?
The 620 is the direct successor to the 600. It delivers 18 GPD vs. the 600's 17 GPD, uses 55% less wastewater, covers homes up to 5,300 sq ft (vs. 4,000), and features the snap-in HydroCore™ cartridge for faster maintenance. The 600 is still available if you prefer the tried-and-true design.
Does the 620 need a floor drain?
Yes, a drain line is still required. While the 620 recirculates water to reduce waste by 55%, it still needs a drain to flush mineral deposits and prevent standing water. A floor drain or condensate pump works.
How often does the Water Panel need to be replaced?
Once per heating season for most homes. If you have very hard water, you may want to replace it mid-season. The digital control includes a service indicator that reminds you when it's time. The Water Panel (Model 10) slides out in seconds — no tools needed. One panel comes included with the unit.
Should I connect it to hot or cold water?
Aprilaire recommends connecting to hot water when possible. Hot water increases the evaporation rate and complements the heat from your furnace. The unit works with cold, hard, or soft water too — but hot water gives the best performance. Note: tankless water heaters may not trigger on the low flow rate, so a standard tank water heater is preferred.
What humidity level should I set?
The ideal range is 35–45% relative humidity in winter. The automatic digital control adjusts based on outdoor temperature — when it's very cold outside, it lowers the target slightly to prevent condensation on windows. Most GTA homeowners set the target around 40% and let the automatic control handle the rest.
