Why Maintenance Matters

6 Reasons to Get a Maintenance Plan

Regular maintenance isn't just about avoiding breakdowns — it's about safety, efficiency, and peace of mind.

Safety First
Carbon monoxide testing and heat exchanger inspection catch dangerous issues before they become hazards.
Extend Equipment Life
A well-maintained furnace lasts 18–20 years. Without maintenance, expect 12–15 years at best.
Lower Energy Bills
A dirty furnace works harder and uses more gas. Annual tune-ups keep efficiency at manufacturer spec.
Prevent Breakdowns
80% of furnace failures are preventable with regular maintenance. Don't wait for a cold night to find out.
Protect Your Warranty
Most manufacturers require annual professional maintenance to keep your warranty valid.
Priority Service
Plan members get bumped to the front of the line when emergencies happen. No waiting in queue.

Furnace Filters

Choosing the Right Furnace Filter

Your furnace filter is the single most important thing you can maintain yourself. A clogged filter is the #1 cause of furnace breakdowns. Here's what you need to know:

Fibreglass (Disposable)
MERV 1–4
Basic protection — catches large dust particles. Cheapest option but provides minimal air quality improvement. Replace monthly. Good for: rental properties, basic needs.
Pleated (Most Common)
MERV 8–11
Best balance of filtration and airflow. Catches dust, pollen, mould spores, and pet dander. Replace every 2–3 months. Good for: most homes, pet owners, allergy sufferers.
High-Efficiency (HEPA-style)
MERV 13–16
Hospital-grade filtration. Catches bacteria, smoke particles, and fine allergens. Can restrict airflow — confirm your furnace supports it. Replace every 3–6 months.
Pro Tip: Check Your Filter Monthly
Hold it up to light — if you can't see through it, replace it. A dirty filter makes your furnace work harder, drives up gas bills, and can cause overheating shutdowns. Our Standard and Full Protection plans include annual filter replacement.
Year-Round Care

Seasonal Heating Maintenance Schedule

Different seasons bring different demands on your heating system. Here's what to focus on throughout the year:

🍂 Fall
September – November
Annual tune-up — Schedule before heating season. Replace filter, test ignitor, clean burners. This is when we do your plan visit.
❄️ Winter
December – February
Monitor & maintain — Check filter monthly (heavy use). Clear snow from vents. Listen for unusual noises. Plan members: call for priority service if issues arise.
🌱 Spring
March – May
Transition check — Replace filter. Check thermostat for cooling mode. Schedule AC tune-up if you have a dual plan.
☀️ Summer
June – August
Off-season prep — Good time for upgrades or replacements. Best pricing on new equipment. Clear area around furnace.
FAQ

Heating Maintenance Questions

How often should I get my furnace serviced?
Once a year, ideally in the fall before heating season. This catches problems before you need the furnace most. All our plans include one annual visit — we'll remind you when it's time.
What's the difference between the three plans?
Basic gets you the annual tune-up. Standard adds a free filter replacement, priority scheduling, and 15% off repairs. Full Protection covers everything — parts, labour, and maintenance — so you never pay for a repair. Most homeowners with furnaces over 5 years old choose Standard or Full Protection.
Can I cancel my plan at any time?
Yes. There's no long-term contract. Cancel anytime with no penalty. We keep customers because the value is real, not because of fine print.
Do you service boilers too?
Absolutely. Our heating maintenance plans cover furnaces and boilers. The inspection checklist is adapted for your specific system type. Call us and we'll set up the right plan for your equipment.
How often should I change my furnace filter?
Standard pleated filters (MERV 8–11) should be checked monthly and replaced every 2–3 months. If you have pets, allergies, or a dusty home, check more often. Our Standard and Full Protection plans include annual filter replacement — but you should still check between visits.
What brands do you service?
All of them. Keeprite, Lennox, Carrier, Goodman, Trane, Rheem, York, Daikin, Amana, American Standard, Bryant, Coleman, Napoleon, Bosch — and every other brand sold in Canada. Our technicians are factory-trained on all major brands.
Is furnace maintenance really necessary?
Short answer: yes. A well-maintained furnace lasts 5–8 years longer, uses less gas, and is far less likely to break down on the coldest night of the year. It's also required by most manufacturers to keep your warranty valid. Think of it like an oil change for your car — skip it and you'll pay more later.
